In a very short period of time after COVID-19 Pakistan has started the local manufacture of ventilators according to the standards of European Union. The first batch of ventilators named “PAKVENT-1” will be delivered to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in the first week of July 2020.
Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry in a video statement said that Pakistan has joined the ranks of those few countries which are producing their own ventilators. “The ventilator is a complicated machine and not a lot of countries in the world have the capacity to make this,” he added.
“PAKVENT-1” has been manufactured with the collaboration of Pakistan Engineering Council, National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM) and Pakistan Ordnance Factories.
The federal minister said that the first batch of 8 to 10 ventilators is ready for operational usage while three more designs are in their final stages after which Pakistan will be among the few countries in the world that manufacture complex medical machines, in accordance with European Union (EU) standards.
